This picture makes me so happy to be getting married in Hawaii, I wish I was leaving tomorrow.
it's called ecofetti and is confetti that is enviromentally friendly because it is biodegradable. You can just leave it where it falls and let Mother Earth take care of the rest or just hose it down to make it disappear. You can get a free sample (sorta free but definitely discounted) by sending a S.A.S.E. to the company (with 2 -39 cents stamps) and they'll mail you some ecofetti to check out and play with.
I've been debating whether or not I want something tossed at me after I am married. Personally I think it's a very strange tradition and the choice of items to throw strange as well. The first, rice, I personally love rice (any carb) and think it's such a shame to throw it when I can cook it up and eat it. My other issue with rice is the fact that if it's thrown or tossed or somehow flies in your direction ... it hurts (keep in mind rice tapers to a kind of point on each end) and knowing me I'd end up with rice in my eye. The second, birdseed, not only could it hurt and end up in my eye but I have visions of birdseed being thrown and then flocks and flocks of birds descending up on the group and pecking out our eyes that are already full of birdseed. Now eye injuries and bird attacks aside, I think when the tossing is caught on film it looks so pretty... I know, I know, I don't make any sense. :)
I think I would be unscathed if we had ecofetti at our wedding. It doesn't look hard at all and in order to get it in my eye it may have to be thrown directly at my face ... what do you think? But just because I think it's cool but it doesn't mean a decision is made. A new problem arises ... the fiance HATES confetti. I know this because his sister (my MOH) used to send him cards with a little confetti surprise and it would get all over the place when he opened the card. It was funny to watch it float around after he removed the card from the envelope and then the cussing as he tried to clean up the little bits of confetti.
Ecofetti is awesome and now I must convince the Fiance that it's cool too.
My first choice, who I'll refer to as TDW, was nice and very informative but was not good at getting back to me at all. I was reminded by TDW that Hawaii is very laid back and expect to wait for a response. Unfortunately that is not acceptable to me. I understand that the Hawaiian culture is very laid back but if you're running a business you still have to be a bit cut throat and observe business etiquette in order to succeed. Sadly, TDW never responded to my last email making a final inquiry about ceremony venues so we went with Manulele.
Back to Manulele, I have to give her the praise that is due. We haven't made any decisions at all (not even pay the deposit) but Manulele has been fantastic. We've bombarded her with so many questions and not only does she get back to you in less than 12 hours but she provides so much detail and other recommendations. I am blown away by the level of professionalism and caring Manulele has exhibited. So she gets our business (and money).
That my friends, is my oh-so-freakin-awesome engagement ring. My fiance and I designed it ourselves after searching high and low for the right ring. My biggest concern was that the main stone had to be set low because I am pretty accident prone and didn't want to worry a lot about knocking out the sparkle (I still worry everyday). Along the same lines of protecting the center stone we wanted a secure setting and this pretty 4-prong basket setting seemed indestructible. We figured if the setting was somehow compromised I'd probably lose my finger in the process (yes this disturbing visual allows me to sleep at night).
Initially I thought I'd be happy with just a solitaire but the fiance, Nick, insisted it needed some extra bling in the form of side stones. We saw all kinds of variations of side stones from pear shaped to hearts to pave but finally settled on 5 smaller prong set round stones on each side. (If you count up all the stones we get my favorite number 11!)
Enough about the ring itself ... Did you know that taking pictures of a diamond, in all of its sparkling glory, is difficult? I played around with my digicam and figured it out. My camera is a Canon PowerShot SD300 and to get the pictures above I used the folllowing settings ...
Here are my ideas (honey, are you paying attention?)...
Flask from Love Me , $35 - but do we want to encourage the drinky drinky?
Temperpedic Comfort Slippers, $65 - the bestman mentioned he thinks these are cool
R2-D2 , $120 - useless yes, but definitely cool
Some additional ideas that I came across...
Swiss Army Memory Tool from Red Envelope , $115 for 1 Gig
Heideluerg Beer Mugs from Bed Bath & Beyond, $9.99 for set of 4
Monogram Coasters from Bed Bath & Beyond, $19.99 for set of 4
I'm thinking we could get a couple items and combine them to make a gift basket-like thing. Part of the problem is that this is my sweetie's project and I really don't know what he has in mind or what the budget is for gifts.
Dooney & Bourke Lunch Bag, $30. I have one and absolutely love it!
I got over issues 1-5 but then last night I was going through my bills and noticed the charge for our airfare to and from Hawaii, it said:
Does that mean that we're not coming back to NJ and we'll be stuck in Phoenix after our wedding and honeymoon?! I wasn't surprised that there was another thing I had to call the travel agent about (I called about the 5 above). Last night I asked my wonderful Fiance to call because the travel agent somehow makes me dizzy with all the talk and then I freak out and need the Fiance to fix it anyway. So he called and supposedly our airline doesn't even fly from Lihue to Honolulu and according to her records we are returning on the path of HNL to PHX to EWR. and that it must've been an error of some sort.
If for whatever reasons you are considering LT or a travel agent in general, I highly recommend doing your research on the travel agency. The scariest part is finding out things after you've put down your deposit money and there's no turning back. Our issues are definitely minor and have warranted a, "Jenny don't freak out" from the Fiance. My other recommendations:
Did you have any problems with a travel agent or booking through one? What happened? What did you do?
What's the problem you ask? I don't know what the veil will look like and if my idea to do 2 layers and just flip over the top will even work. What do you think?
BTW, here's a picture that's close to what I am thinking ... keep in mind this veil is 108" wide and I configured 72", I think that should make a difference.
What did you do? Any suggestions? Recommendations?
Okay I digressed a little there but the first three are the most important and constantly on my mind. Let's talk about a combo issue, fiance and I have a date picked and all the restaurants and the two planners that I've contacted are available on our chosen date (it's my little secret) but since I don't know where we're having our ceremony (problem #2) I cannot commit to a restaurant or a planner. And I like to commit so I can move on to other things I need to figure out and devote my time to.
The other problem is #1, I have a head count for those who have confirmed with me (as opposed to the travel agent) that they are coming to Kauai with us. But (there's always a but), we have some family & friends who are making their own arrangements and at this point some still do not know if they can make it. So because I do not know for sure how many people there'll be I cannot choose a restaurant.
On to problem #3, my dinner first choice is Plantation Gardens. The problem with PG is that in their largest room they can only have a maximum of 22 and if I do people math with all my maybe guests, I just may go over 22. My second choice is the The Beach House and I've got a good cushion here because their smallest room has a maximum of 30. So why not just go with the Beach House? Because I really like PG and want to make sure I can or cannot fit my guests before I decide. To throw a wrench into everything, Manulele (a planner I'm in contact with) recommended the Tidepools Restaurant at the Hyatt ... and now I have to check it out online to make sure I want to include it in my considerations.
Now I am exhausted from thinking about all this ... I'll leave you with an awesome picture of a Kauai sunrise I found on Flickr.
